Livelihood Opportunities for the Youth

Livelihood Opportunities from Farming for Enohonis Youth, Cendana Village, Timor Tengah Selatan, NTT

In recent times, being a farmer may not be attractive to some people, especially young people. Prefers to find work outside of one’s own village or even abroad for a fortune. This also happened to the youth in the village of Cendana, our special concern for the future of agriculture, especially vegetable providers. Together with the local Church pastor, he also assisted this youth group to work by motivating youth to do something productive in this village.

The young man, who consists of 25 members, previously had a variety of jobs, such as driving, motorcycle taxis and self-employed. However, after looking around their village, the farmer groups we assist are successful in vegetable farming with better production and income.

Youth Enhonis felt motivated to follow this success.

They follow all the training that we do in stages starting from, cultivating the land, nurseries, fertilizing, plant pests, crop yields and gender. The spirit of this youth continues to show.

In 2019 the Enohonis youth group began to collaborate on an area of 560M2 with 1,600 tomato plants. Directly guided technically from our team at SoE, NTT. The yields were quite good, they earned Rp. 6,175,000 from planting these tomatoes.

These young people see that the results of farming are promising to support life in their own village. Our records, as long as we follow good agricultural practices, have an administrative / farming record, both what is given to plants and the yields must be recorded properly. The goal is that each farm is our learning stage and is able to evaluate each other’s farming activities.

The Enohonis Youth continue their farming efforts independently with the assistance of our team in SoE, NTT until now, yesterday, 25 June 2020 they harvested beans.

Our pride in Enohonis Youth, Cendana village, South Central Timor, who continue to try farming so that the economy can improve and the nutritional needs of the community’s vegetables, especially for NTT, can be fulfilled properly.
