Pace Yosias Kwan and Mama Meriam Muid are examples of how someone can achieve success by making a bold decision to switch professions and develop new abilities. Although farming is currently a less favored profession, with hard work and a willingness to learn, they have proven that they can excel in the field of agriculture.
Pace Yosias and Mama Meriam have successfully established a thriving business by cultivating various horticultural crops such as the Dewata F1 variety of chili, the Servo and Gustafi F1 tomato varieties, the Kanton Tavi F1 variety of Cantonese beans, the Maxipro F1 variety of beans, the Raden F1 pariah variety, the Bonanza variety of sweet corn F1, Shinta variety of mustard greens, and the Bangkok variety of kale. One of the results of planting long bean plants on a 300 m2 plot with cultivation expenses of Rp380,000, they managed to gain a profit up to IDR 2,835,000 in a single planting season within 50 days. Their harvests are sold to markets, hotels, and restaurants.
A key factor in their success as farmers is following the guidance provided by the technical field officer (TFO) from YBTS to support the development of their agricultural business. Apart from that, Pace Yosias and Mama Meriam actively participate in group activities and constantly seek information to solve issues in their crops, continuously updating their knowledge, especially regarding the use of pesticides and fertilizations.
