On August 31st, 2016, Bina Tani Sejahtera Foundation (YBTS/ Yayasan Bina Tani Sejahtera) collaborated with Karina and EWINDO, and organized a vegetable technology expo with the theme: Let’s plant vegetable and ‘plant’ water to increase farmers’ resilience! This event was held in Tetaf village, NTT province. Since December 2015, YBTS cooperates with communities to deploy extension and water access projects in 7 (seven) villages in TTS district. This project is supported by AJF organization, so that farmers can grow vegetables during the dry season. Farmers usually pump water from nearby water source.
This event started from morning until evening, attended by 540 people consisting of farmers, vocational school students, partners, donor representatives and as well as the local government. Regional secretary of TTS district, Drs. Salmun Tabun, M.Si formally opened the vegetable technology expo. The expo showcased 14 vegetable varieties of Cap Panah Merah: tomatoes, french bean, pumpkin, cucumber, leafies and others. In this activity, Dr. Ir. Edwin Sanso Saragih, M.Si (YBTS chairperson) and the regional secretary of TTS district also harvested some vegetables in the expo area.
Farmers visited around the demo plot and got some explanation of good seed selection and good cultivation techniques. Additionally, vegIMPACT also distributed knowledge material through the foundation such as cultivation guidance, and some edu-games on occupational safety for farmers. The local government through the regional secretary, as well as the donor representative (Karina) also showed their appreciation of the vegetable technology expo.
