Farmers always got excited for their harvest day. The farmers in Kajasbo Village, Biak Numfor, were not an exception. They were overjoyed to obtain 100 kg of wet tubers from the true shallot seed (TSS) Lokananta variety cultivation. The tubers they harvested were in good condition. Other than the farmers and local citizens, the mayor of Biak Numfor, the head of the Department of Agriculture and Defense in Biak Numfor, and the head of Dispenda also attended the harvest day. The farmers’ happiness increased as the mayor purchased their harvested goods.

The success of these shallots farmers was solid proof that Biak Numfor had many skilful farmers that could push the local farming industries. Under the assistance of Yayasan Bina Tani Sejahtera (YBTS), the farmers continued to enhance their skills in developing their farmlands and obtaining excellent quality harvested goods. The success story could inspire more farmers in Papua to cultivate vegetables on their farmlands.

The farmers’ achievement was not without the support of all the parties committed to elevating farming activities in Papua.
