When Courage Begins to Grow in Krisanti’s Field

Let’s Grow (Timor Cluster)

Starting something completely new is never easy. Feelings of doubt, fear of failure, and uncertainty about where to begin are often the first challenges to overcome. This was exactly what Krisanti Bifel from Popnam Village, South Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, experienced when she decided to start cultivating beans on her own land.

Before this, Krisanti had never planted beans before. Every stage of the cultivation process felt unfamiliar to her. However, her willingness to learn and try encouraged her to keep moving forward step by step. Day by day, she learned how to care for the plants, maintain healthy growth, and ensure the crops could survive until harvest time.

“At first, I didn’t know how to grow beans. But I thought, if I never try, I’ll never know the results,” Krisanti shared.

The journey was certainly not without challenges. There was a long process that required patience, from learning to recognize plant conditions to adjusting field maintenance practices. Even so, Krisanti continued to persevere and learn from every experience along the way.

Her efforts finally began to show results during the second harvest. From her field, Krisanti successfully harvested 131 kilograms of beans, which she then started selling to the nearest MBG at a price of IDR 8,000 per kilogram. The harvest became a valuable achievement while also creating an additional source of income for her and her family.

For Krisanti, the harvest was not only about the numbers, but also about having the courage to start something that once felt difficult to do.

“Little by little, I started becoming more confident because I realized that I could also learn and earn income from my own garden,” she said.
