Horticultural products are not only about planting and harvesting. Behind every cultivation process, there are opportunities that can continue to grow through learning, mentoring, and field experience. This is part of the journey of Hironimus Malo, a young farmer from Mareda Wuni Village, Southwest Sumba Regency, who has been developing his bean cultivation together with YBTS support.

Currently, Hironimus has entered his third planting season for beans. Each season has become a new learning process to better understand crop conditions while improving the results of his cultivation efforts.

Through regular field monitoring activities, the YBTS team conducts direct observations on crop development, including plant growth, leaf health, pest management, fertilization, and irrigation practices. These mentoring activities also provide space for discussion to ensure that every cultivation step can be carried out more effectively according to field conditions.

“Every season I learn many new things, especially about how to take care of the plants so the results can improve from the previous season,” Hironimus shared.

The process he has gone through has gradually started to show real results. From the first planting season to the second, Hironimus’ income increased from IDR 4,145,750 to IDR 6,645,000. This improvement reflects how consistency in learning and improving cultivation practices can create positive impacts for young farmers.

For Hironimus, this journey is not only about harvest results, but also about how agriculture can open opportunities to continue growing and building a better future through his own efforts.

“The mentoring support has helped me become more confident in managing my farm and improving the results in every planting season,” he said.

The increase in harvest results has become new motivation for Hironimus to continue learning and further develop his bean cultivation activities.
