Ceram is the largest and the main island in Mollucas Province. It is 1,700 square kilometers within 400,000 in population. In this island, there are 3 districts, they are West Ceram, East Ceram, and Central Mollucas district. Ceram also famous of their plantation products such as cloves, nutmeg, and copra.
Yayasan Bina Tani Sejahtera selected the demo plot location in Holo village, Amahai subdistrict, Central Mollucas district (21 kilometers from Masohi City). It takes 2-3 hours accros the sea form Ambon by speedboat. In collaboration with selected farmer group, we develop the integrated demo plot in the group’s land. We planted 9 varieties of vegetable crops from Cap Panah Merah’s seed in 1,000 sqm land.
We coordinate with farmer group and the government to conduct the knowledge transfer activities through the demo lot establishment, GAP (Good Agriculture Practices), Field day, and vegetable consumption promotion. These activities started in May, 2017.
We conducted Training of Farmer (ToF) activities in Holo village with several topics, such as: agroecosystem, seedling preparation, fertilization, and spraying technique practice. We also did a knowledge transfer activity to the key farmers, so that they can disseminate the knowledge to the other farmers. They distributed some crop guide brochures and booklet to others and also made some discussion about seedling preparation, fertilization and crop protection. Throught the knowledge transfer activities, until October 2017, we have reached 498 beneficiaries of farmer (363 male; 165 female). Through the field day event in October 2017, we engaged people, especially farmers in Amahai to grow vegetable for income and nutrition improvement.
