The Success of a Farmland Led by a Youth Community in Ketapang

The youth community in Sukamaju Village, Ketapang, maximized the potential of two-hectare farmlands. They cultivated several commodities, such as bitter gourds, tomatoes, eggplants, cucumbers, and corn. This farming activity was a part of the training program from Yayasan Bina Tani Sejahtera (YBTS), Nufarm, and Badan Pertanahan Nasional Ketapang.

The head of Sukamaju Village, Supardi, said he would continue supporting farming activities there. He also added that the village’s farmland, which the young citizens were developing, would be prioritized to cultivate crops easily sold in the market. Prioritizing the said corps was deemed essential to improve the economic condition of the citizens in Sukamaju Village. “If it’s possible, of course, we’re going to keep improving the farmland,” he explained.

Supardi believed that the village’s farmland would unlock a new potential to enhance the economic condition in Sukamaju Village. The goods obtained from the farmland could be a source of income for the citizens. The young generation could also hold stable jobs as farmers. In the future, Supardi also hoped that they could continue to develop the village’s farmland to be one of the horticulture tourism destinations.
