Gaining experience by working far from home is indeed valuable, but investing in one’s own land is even better. Ferdi is a young farmer who inspires others and serves as a true example. At the age of 29, he joined a project after working in various places, earning a good income, and feeling he had found the ideal life.
However, something compelled him to return home. With the skills and knowledge he gained from other places, he began to develop his family’s land into a productive farm.
Initially, he planted crops using traditional methods, following the practices of his predecessors. He did not plan in-depth or use advanced techniques; as long as he could harvest, he was satisfied.
When the Let’s Grow program started, Ferdi was one of the most enthusiastic participants. He was critical and very curious, and his eagerness to learn resulted in impressive harvests.
In the first season, he chose to plant tomatoes. Some people were skeptical because no one had successfully grown tomatoes there before, linking it to superstitions that could damage the crops. However, Ferdi ignored those doubts, believing that hard work, following my recommendations as an agricultural extension worker, and good care would lead to success.
Despite facing many challenges, he succeeded, leaving everyone amazed by his achievements. While others earned little, he gained everything. His tomato harvest was the highest, yielding around Rp10,000,000 in three months. He achieved what he had fought for.
However, Ferdi was not satisfied with just one success. He continued to seek new challenges and learn more. In the next season, he decided to plant French beans.
He was open to new techniques and recommendations, paying attention to every detail. His disciplined care for his plants resulted in another successful harvest, with the highest yield in the area. In his first harvest, he collected 30 kg, while others only managed 10 kg.
What was most admirable was that despite achieving good initial results, Ferdi remained unsatisfied and continued to work hard. May his spirit remain strong, and may he become a role model for others.
