Ulrikus Hana, a young man from Bea Ngencung Village, East Manggarai, Flores, once experienced one of the lowest points in his life. After feeling lost and uncertain about his future, he slowly began to rebuild his life and found new hope through agriculture.

Through a learning process and mentorship provided by Yayasan Bina Tani Sejahtera (YBTS), Ulrikus started to reshape his path as a young horticulture farmer. With discipline and patience, he cultivated Madesta F1 melons on his 500 m² plot of land.

His hard work eventually paid off. From the land, Ulrikus successfully harvested 3,945 kg of melons, generating an income of Rp25,920,000. For Ulrikus, this harvest was not only about numbers, but also proof that learning, perseverance, and the willingness to change can create a real impact in someone’s life.

“There was a time when I felt confused about where my life was heading. But through the learning process and mentorship I received, I began to believe that I could also grow through agriculture. This harvest has become a new motivation for me to keep moving forward,” said Ulrikus.

Ulrikus’ journey shows how proper mentorship can open new opportunities for young people in the agricultural sector. Beyond learning cultivation techniques, he also developed discipline, consistency, and self-confidence in managing his farming business.

Today, this melon harvest marks an important first step for Ulrikus as he continues to grow as a young horticulture farmer. His spirit and perseverance are expected to inspire other young people to see agriculture as a promising path for the future.
