Pests and crop diseases (HPT) was the enemy of every farmer. Including farmers of Alefbo village, Biak Timur district, Biak numfor, Papua Province. This time, the farmer group Wurkmanim,  served by YBTS TFO Ganang Prakoso, are monitoring and identifying HPT of cabbage crop variety Sehati F1.

The process to monitor and identify HPT was a continuation of activities and training about the concept of pest and crop disease control. Members of the farmer group were given a task to monitor and identify HPT that they find in each crop. Each pest that was found will be collected and each crop that was infected will be noted. Farmers also gonna identify all the pest and crop diseases that were collected at the end of activity.

After a thorough analysis, pest populations collected did not pass the economic threshold, hence they will use the mechanical restraint procedure. One of the farmers, Ibu Rumbiak (50) said this activity was very good to do, “Before the training, we have to spray the pesticides to control pests. Now, I understand the importance of monitoring our crops to know what types of pests and diseases that are attacking the crops so we can find the best solution.”
