Today, the Banum Youth Farmers Group held a Farmers Field Day at a sample garden of Wirmaker Village, Yendidori District, Biak Numfor Regency, Papua (7/72022). The theme of this Farmers Field Day event is “Let’s Plant Vegetables to Improve the Economy and Nutrition of the Community”.
This activity was attended by 120 people including the Deputy Regent of Biak Numfor, stakeholders such as the Yendidori Police Chief, Yendidori District Head, Lanal, Babinsa, and farmers assisted by the Bina Tani Sejahtera Foundation.
“The field meeting is one way to motivate farmers to keep growing vegetables,” said Veni Astri Butarbutar, YBTS Technical Field Officer who accompanied the Banum farmer group.
In this activity, the agendas include harvesting, a farmer’s quiz competition, and a photo contest of agricultural products. Deputy Regent of Biak Numfor, Calvin Mansnembra, also expressed his support for this event, “activities like this must continue because it helps farmers gain knowledge related to vegetable cultivation. Even if necessary, it should be extended to the entire Biak Numfor area.”
The Banum youth farmer group has planted 5000 m2 of land planted with honey pumpkin, eggplant, beans, bitter melon, and kale. “I am very grateful to the Bina Tani Sejahtera Foundation, Kopernik, and Binmakmeser who have accompanied us from the beginning to harvest. I also hope that the local government, especially the Regent and Deputy Regent, can pay attention to us and the existing farmers. We need agricultural tools such as tractors, fertilizers, and so on,” said Mr. Okto Mandibodibo, leader of the Banum farmer group.
