The Power of Determination, Enthusiasm, and Consistency in Farming

Hanafi Hanif (25), a young farmer from Tanjung Buka, Tanjung Palas Hilir village, Tanjung Palas district, Bulungan regency, used to work as a casual laborer before losing his job due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With determination, perseverance, and consistency, he decided to switch professions and become a young farmer.

With guidance and support from YBTS, Hanafi planted 800 chili plants on a 400 m2 plot of land and achieved a good harvest. With this success, he decided to plant 1,600 big chili plants and 200 sweet corn plants on a larger plot of land, which is 800 m2, for the second harvest. Hanafi hopes to continue developing his farming skills and experimenting with different types of crops in the future. He also hopes to motivate other young people to start farming and form a group of young farmers called Kimpul Team.

Through the Kimpul Team, Hanafi and his friends aim to inspire other young people to be creative and independent in farming with the support of the local government and YBTS. “We are grateful for the motivation, support, and guidance provided by YBTS. We are hoping to continue farming vegetables and expanding our network,” said Hanafi.
