Youth Make a Living as a Farmer

Youth Make a Living as a Farmer

There are 54 youth as key farmers (demo plots) with tomatoes as the most cultivated crop. They get an average income of  IDR 14,901,000 (1,036 USD) after 5 months (from the growing season until the end of the harvest) from growing crops in an area of 500 m2.

This means that although they are just starting to learn planting with YBTS, they already have an income of IDR 2,980,000/month (207 USD).

By implementing GAP, the highest tomato crop yields were obtained by young farmers in Central Sumba with a total of 3,820 kg/500m2 and a profit of IDR 26,196,000 (1,822 USD). It shows that young people who just start farming are able to get a monthly income opportunity of IDR 5,239,000 (364 USD).

This success story then motivated other young fellow farmers. Youth participation in agriculture is very beneficial both directly and indirectly, one of which is reducing unemployment while increasing livelihoods.
