About Us

Bridge the Gap Between Seed Technology and Practical Farming

Yayasan Bina Tani Sejahtera

Yayasan Bina Tani Sejahtera (YBTS) was established to take part in the social and humanitarian fields, especially related to agricultural livelihoods. We work to help improve farmers’ livelihoods to make them more prosperous. The founding of the foundation is one of the corporate social responsibility strategies of PT. East West Seed Indonesia.

We believe that farmers’ livelihoods can be improved, among others, by means of a transfer of knowledge and technology in order to increase the capacity and productivity of farmers in farming. In this regard, the Foundation provides counseling and consulting services, conducts training on cultivation and agricultural business, and operates nurseries.

The Foundation’s program targets small-scale farmers in Indonesia, especially those who are still low or have limited access to technical assistance and extension services. We also give attention and service to the management and use of natural resources and the environment in a sustainable manner.

Our Vision & Mission

Our Vision

We believe in high quality vegetable seeds for better living. With this vision we assist in the improvement of farmers livelihood and care also about social and environmental issues.

Our Mission

In realizing the vision, YBTS provides knowledge and technology transfer, agriculture extension and consultancy services, and conducts training on agriculture practices and agribusiness. In this regard, we develop a program based on the potential for improvement of smallholder farmers’ livelihood in eastern parts of Indonesia and less penetrated markets.

YBTS, founded in April 2009, targets small-holder farmers especially those with limited access to the technical assistance and extension services. We put great attention and provide services in sustainable use and management of natural resources and environment.

Our Value

Farmers’ Best Friends

We are farmers' best friends, placing them at core of our service. We empower farmers with vital knowledge and skills for successful agricultural practices, offering close guidance and unconditional support. Our focus is on serving farmers through Knowledge Transfer, extension services, and project partnerships, aiming for impactful results and positive changes in livelihoods.

Happy and Grateful Employee

Motivated, enthusiastic, and passionate, YBTS employees play a crucial role in the YBTS' success. In every circumstance, they remain happy and grateful for their accomplishments, understanding the direct link between farmer happiness and employee satisfaction. Upholding values of integrity and positive attitude, fostering teamwork, and prioritizing continuous learning, YBTS employees contribute to the foundation's mission with dedication and sincerity.

Strive for Excellence

Aspire for excellence through innovation, operational excellence, and disciplined teamwork, committed to continuous improvement and perseverance in achieving the foundation's goals. We go the extra mile in serving farmers and internal customers, using efficient tools for quick adaptation, remaining proactive, flexible, and responsive to changes, and adopting an agile approach in seeking information and sharing best practices.

Message from The Board

Rutger Groot

Chairman, Board of Trustees

Jaap Maazereuw as a Member, Board of Trustee of YBTS

Jaap Mazereeuw

Member, YBTS Board of Trustees

2025 was another meaningful year for Yayasan Bina Tani Sejahtera in its mission to serve farmers across Indonesia. Our dedicated teams and partners supported thousands of smallholder farmers and young entrepreneurs in building more productive and sustainable livelihoods. At the heart of YBTS is a simple belief: when farmers thrive, communities thrive. This belief, shaped by our founders Piet Mazereeuw and Simon Groot, still guides the organization every day. With the passing of Simon in 2025, we remember with gratitude the foundation he helped build and we see his legacy continue in the work happening in the field. It is encouraging to see more women and young people choosing opportunities in agriculture. Women are often the driving force behind their farms and families, and by strengthening their skills and yields, communities benefit as well. Through youth agribusiness programs, including our collaboration with the Ganesha Foundation, hundreds of young farmers are taking their first steps toward a future in agriculture.  At the same time, support from the Stichting De Eik helps YBTS reach farmers in remote areas such as Papua, where vegetable farming is creating new and meaningful sources of income. We are also encouraged by the growing focus on more responsible farming practices, including the reduced and careful use of agricultural chemicals and improved management of plastic waste. These steps contribute to healthier farms and a more sustainable future for the next generation. Close collaboration with the Advisory Council, bringing together expertise from Enza Zaden, East-West Seed and Wageningen University, continues to provide valuable technical knowledge and guidance to the YBTS team, strengthening the quality of our support to farmers. As Board of Trustees, we are proud of the dedication of the YBTS team and thankful to everyone who contributes to this work. We remain confident in YBTS’s continued growth and impact in the years ahead.

Glenn Pardede

Chairman, Supervisory Board YBTS

As we close 2025 and step into 2026, Yayasan Bina Tani Sejahtera (YBTS) continues to learn and grow alongside farmers across Indonesia. Vegetable farming requires resilience, a willingness to keep learning, and the ability to adapt to constant change. Throughout the year, YBTS has remained present in supporting farmers, especially young farmers and women, by strengthening their knowledge, skills, and confidence to build more sustainable livelihoods. In 2026, we embrace the theme GERCEP (Move Fast). For us, moving fast does not mean rushing. Meaningful speed is built on resilience, on farmers who persevere, teams who remain consistent in their support, and partnerships that reinforce one another. With this foundation, we are better able to respond quickly to challenges, make sound decisions, and stay relevant in a changing environment. This journey would not be possible without the dedication of the entire YBTS team, the trust and support of our partners, and the perseverance of farmers who continue to move forward despite limitations. Through the ongoing partnership between East-West Seed Indonesia (EWINDO) and YBTS, we remain committed to ensuring that knowledge truly reaches those who need it most. With resilience as our foundation, we step into 2026 with confidence, ready to move faster, grow stronger, and move forward together.

The year 2025 was a good year for YBTS, as we entered the next level of serving more farmer and exerted positive impact to the many small-holder farmers in Indonesia. We continue doing our best to reach out to the farmers. Even for non-farmers who are not yet familiar with vegetable farming. Our team in the fields, from Aceh to Papua, from Sangihe to Pohuwato, from Dompu to Bima, from Seram island to Halmahera island, from Sorong to Merauke, from Manokwari to Sentani and Jayapura, from Kupang to Soe and Kefa, and elsewhere, we support and accompany them all along in realizing potential of high-quality vegetable seeds in combination with good and sustainable farming practices. We have been growing in terms of organization size. With only 4 staff in 2013, 91 staff in the 15th anniversary of the year 2024, and in 2025 we were bigger: 137 staffs. Thousands of farmers have acquired skills & knowledge they need to perform good farming as livelihood business. In 2025, we served 3,382 farmers doing vegetable demplots of tomatoes, french beans, cucumbers, chilies, yard-long beans, leafy greens, sweet corns, shallots, eggplants, and other types of vegetables. The farmers obtained an average seasonal income of Rp 7,151,000 or US$ 462, a decent income for rural areas. Moreover, farmers’ families benefited from improved nutrition by consuming a portion of the vegetable harvest they produced. Through our farmer training programs, we enabled and facilitated participants to acquire knowledge and practical skills; when applied correctly, they shall increase productivity and farm incomes. In 2025, there were 16,249 participants in the YBTS training program. These include farmers seeking to learn new skills and practices, as well as individuals from non-farming backgrounds who see opportunities in vegetable farming as a primary source of income. This is especially true for many young people in rural areas who are now experiencing that cultivating vegetable crops is both productive and profitable. Farmers success is contagious, and many more farmers will adopt practices that improve yield and income. Nonetheless, we also learn from failures and stand ready to improve. YBTS’s success is made possible through the support from PT. East West Seed Indonesia (EWINDO), as well as the partnership from our donors and sponsors. We are truly grateful and being enriched in our doing for the collaboration with the Ganesha Foundation, Stichting De Eik, and the P4G Facility of the World Resources Institute, which has greatly enriched our work and service. It is also noteworthy to state herewith that YBTS’s annual financial reports was audited by public accountant with a fair opinion with regards to how yayasan records and reports its financial report & information. Finally, we, the YBTS Board of Executives, would like to convey gratitude to all staff of YBTS, EWINDO, and to the Board of Trustees and Board of Supervisors of YBTS for the support, and guidance.
